For the month of June, the Torpedo Factory Art Center partners with Alexandria’s St. George Art Gallery to host painter Daniel Taye of Addis Abiba, Ethiopia, in the New Project Studio. Once named by CNN as the “Van Gogh of Africa,” Taye traveled from Africa to participate in this month long residency. His work has been shown at St. George Art Gallery for more than 15 years and some of his work is on permanent exhibition.

March is a special month for a number of reasons. The main ones being Spring begins and it is the month to recognize the achievements and contributions of women.The Alexandria Arts Forum, in honor of Women’s History Month, is hosting an Arts Reception, to honor the accomplishments and contributions of an outstanding woman in the arts in Alexandria. This year’s honorees include Saba Alene, owner of St. George’s Gallery in Old Town and Shelly Bell, Creative Director at Made by A Black Woman.
