Fasil Assefa

Vibrant colors, chaos, and the beauty of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s largest Merkato scene inspires Fasil Assefa’s paintings. His work reflects the energy and adventure of the market scene to capturing a moment of solitude within the chaos.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1984, Assefa earned a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Master Fine Arts and Vocational Training Centre in 2002, and completed a Certificate Course from the Abyssinia Fine Arts and Vocational Training Centre in 2003. He graduated from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design of Addis Ababa University in 2007, and then worked as an artist from Dec 2005 – March 2007 at the School of Tomorrow, Addis Ababa.

Fasil enjoys writing poetry, and has been acknowledged as an Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation and Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace.

Assefa’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows to include the Imperial Hotel, Abyssinia Gallery and the Addis Ababa Museum among others.

St. George Gallery has exhibited Fasil Assefa’s work since 2011 and his work is part of the Gallery’s permanent collection.
