Samuel Sharew
Samuel Sharew’s work is full of mystery and drama with graceful figures gradually emerging from a background of cliffs, waterfalls, or caves. He paints graceful figures often half-hidden in background. His female figures often have an ethereal quality and are very soothing to look at.
Born in Asella, Ethiopia, Sharew attended the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design of Addis Ababa University in 1982 and graduated with great distinction in 1986 specializing in painting. Sharew initially worked at the National Museum of Ethiopia, however since 1991 he has worked as a full-time artist.
Sharew’s paintings have been included in several solo and group exhibitions in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. St. George Gallery has exhibited Samuel Sharew’s work since 1995.
