Seyoum Ayalew illuminates the relationship between light and shadow by contrasting the warmth and power of light through hot and cool colors with cool and hot colors. Ayalew was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1968. In 1985, he graduated from Addis Ababa University Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, of Addis Ababa University, with a degree in Mural Art. Following graduation, he relocated to Dessie where he worked to promote art, support and teach new artists. He now works as a full-time artist, “An artist should live as an artist,” was what he said when he was interviewed for the Nov.-Dec. 2009 issue of the local Addis Ababa magazine, Tebita. Ayalew’s work has participated in exhibitions in numerous Ethiopian venues, and internationally to include Ireland, Bulgaria, United States, among others. St. George Gallery has exhibited Seyoum Ayalew’s work since 2015.
