Inspired by the Harar Market, and the traditional Ethiopian eye expression, Zekarias Ketema’s paintings reflect contemporary and striking female head figuratives.
Ketema was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1981, and he graduated from the Entoto Technical and Vocational Training College in 2011 where he earned a diploma in the Fine Arts. He was awarded 3rd prize in mosaic art performance in 2010; participated in the 2011, Four Freedoms art competition hosted by the United States Embassy in Addis Ababa; and performed as a graphic artist in UK Embassy of Addis Ababa in 2013. He works full-time as a studio artist.
Ketema’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in coveted venues and galleries in Ethiopia, and St. George Gallery has exhibited his work since 2015.
